NEW YORK — Authorities say a couple traveling with a woman and her toddler in Florida took the 3-year-old to New York and abandoned him at St. Patrick’s Cathedral after his mother was arrested in Florida. The pair also were suspected of being involved in a counterfeiting operation in Florida. The boy’s grandfather, Donald Fons, a former Denver sheriff’s deputy who now lives near Tampa, is seeking custody.
