City officials have issued 15 dispensary licenses for medical-marijuana shops, while more than 200 dispensary applications are still pending.
More than 100 of those dispensaries with pending applications have received their inspection cards, meaning they are in the homestretch of their license chase, Denver Excise and Licenses director Penny May told City Council members at a committee meeting Wednesday. Eighteen dispensaries’ applications were rejected, mainly because the dispensaries were in residential zones, May said.
In total, 269 dispensaries have submitted applications since the city implemented new rules for dispensaries, which require a special license.
