The White House on Wednesday granted Boulder, Denver and Garfield counties $25 million in federal Recovery Act funds for helping residents save energy.
The money, a share of $452 million awarded to 25 communities nationwide, is intended to ramp up retrofitting of buildings and homes.
“This investment in some of the most innovative energy-efficiency projects across the country will not only help homeowners and businesses make cost-cutting retrofit improvements, but also create jobs right here in America,” a statement from Vice President Joe Biden said.
Boulder County applied for the grant to work with Denver, Garfield County, Gov. Bill Ritter’s Energy Office, Xcel Energy and others to implement a program targeting neighborhoods and commercial districts to persuade people to save energy. Bruce Finley, The Denver Post
