The Wheat Ridge Police Department is doing an internal investigation into a case involving a volunteer who was hit by a deflected bullet during SWAT training.
The incident happened April 14 at the Rooney Valley Law Enforcement Training Facility in Golden. That facility is located on Rooney Road and 6th Avenue and is used by law enforcement agencies across Jefferson County.
Investigators say a bullet deflected off a piece of metal and hit the volunteer in the hand during firearm qualification.
Authorities say the volunteer was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.
The names of the shooter and the volunteer were not released.
Wheat Ridge Police say the officer is still working despite the investigation.
