Lakewood officials have suspended a liquor license for Alameda Square Discount Liquors after officials discovered that a man working there sold alcohol to minors for at least the second time.

Van Thien Pham, 47, of Westminster was first charged for selling alcohol to a minor in 2007, when the minor went on to cause an accident that killed 17-year-old Samara Stricklen. Pham pleaded guilty to 10 counts of providing alcohol to a minor and was sentenced to two years in jail followed by three years’ probation. He was released from jail June 16.

The terms of his probation restricted him from working in a liquor store. On April 14, however, he was working at the same store — Alameda Square Discount Liquors — which is now owned by his wife. On that day, Pham allegedly sold alcohol to a minor who was part of a sting operation and did not ask for identification.

The Lakewood Liquor Licensing Authority suspended the license on Friday until a hearing on May 6.
