The death of Colorado Rockies president Keli McGregor has shaken not only the baseball world, but all those who knew him as a gifted athlete and a man of integrity.
McGregor’s memory will be honored at 11 a.m. Sunday at Coors Field in what is sure to be an emotional gathering.
The sudden passing of 48-year-old McGregor, who died of natural causes while on a business trip to Salt Lake City, has triggered an outpouring of sympathy and support both here in Colorado and among baseball executives around the country.
But the loss of McGregor is particularly painful here because he was one of Colorado’s own. He played several sports at Lakewood High School, and was a standout tight end at Colorado State University, where he earned a degree in microbiology. He was drafted by the Denver Broncos in 1985.
McGregor joined the Rockies in 1993, and moved his way up the organizational ladder to the position of president, which he attained in 2001.
He will be remembered not only as an accomplished professional, but as a dedicated family man. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his wife, Lori, and the four McGregor children: daughters Jordan, Taylor and Landri, and a son, Logan.
