Grand Junction is calling
This summer and spring visitors to Grand Junction will be able to explore almost 20 vineyards, wineries and tasting rooms in the Grand Valley American Viticultural Area. The Art and Jazz Festival, May 7-9, will feature live jazz, food vendors, wine tastings and art gallery tours. And eight area wineries will present their newest wines, paired with appropriate food, and a sneak preview of upcoming releases at the Spring Barrel Tasting, May 15-16. Also offered is a July 23-25 train tour from Denver to Grand Junction, which includes a return to Denver on a luxury motor coach.
Artposium in Salida
Colorado Supreme Court Justice Greg Hobbs will be a guest presenter at Colorado Art Ranch’s seventh Artposium, Wade in the Water, May 21-23 in Salida. Artists in residence will also be featured guests over the weekend, which aims to bring together the visual arts, sciences and the environment.
Women’s fly-fishing weekend.
Colorado Women Flyfishers and the Colorado Division of Wildlife will host the second annual Women’s Flyfishing Weekend May 22-23 near Chatfield Reservoir. Saturday includes classes on knot tying, selecting equipment, fly identification and more. Sunday offers introductory stream fishing techniques. The weekend’s events will be held at Kassler Center. The $90 fee includes two days of instruction, a t-shirt, two continental breakfasts, equipment, lunch on Saturday and snacks.
Mountainfilm festival
The 32nd annual Mountainfilm in Telluride festival takes place May 28-31 and features a wide selection of guest presenters this year, including Tim DeChristopher, Ed Viesturs, George Packer, Greg Mortenson, Richard Holbrooke and Anna Deavere Smith. The festival, which originally started off as a gathering to showcase climbing films, has evolved over the years to become a place to celebrate “adventure, awareness and activism.”
