DENVER—Colorado Rockies left-hander Jorge De La Rosa has a torn flexor band on the middle finger of his pitching hand and will most likely be placed on the disabled list.

Manager Jim Tracy said after the Rockies’ 5-3 loss to Arizona on Monday that an MRI revealed the severity of the injury, which was initially called a bone bruise.

“The flexor tendon band has torn away from the tendon. It’s going to be a little time,” Tracy said. “We’re not involved in a surgical situation. I would be remiss if I told you it was only going to be (one start). I think it’s going to be a little bit longer than that.”

De La Rosa left Sunday’s win over Florida after pitching five innings. The left-hander said his middle finger felt numb and he threw only his changeup in his final inning when he gave up his only two runs of the game.

“We were getting him through the fifth inning,” Tracy said. “He could only throw his changeup and that’s why we removed him. If we had not been dealing with the issue he could have continued but he had no feeling in that middle finger.”

De La Rosa (3-1) has 19 wins since June 1, 2009, the most in the major leagues. He is 19-4 since starting 0-6 in 2009.
