The weather finally warmed up during Fairview’s baseball game on Saturday, but the Knights never did.

After averaging a dozen runs per game over the previous six contests, Fairview went cold in a big way against Fort Collins, managing just one hit in a 4-1 home loss.

Lambkins senior right-hander Caleb Kirkman didn’t allow a hit for his first 5 1/3innings, struck out seven in six innings overall and improved to 5-0 on the season. But the Knights were left more frustrated than in awe of Kirkman.

“He was a good pitcher, but our swings were bad,” said FHS junior Evan Thoning, who broke up Kirkman’s no-hitter with a bloop single to shallow right field with one out in the sixth inning.
