Getting your player ready...

When a Coloradan appears in Playboy, I am usually the first one to report on it in purple prose. If it’s Heidi Montag, the Campbell twins from Longmont or a batch of CU-Boulder co-eds, I am always happy to give them some, errr, coverage.

So an e-mail with the subject “Denverite in Playboy” naturally caught my eye Sunday. I hit it open, only to discover that the Denverite was Pat McNulty, a longtime Denver deejay and voice-over guy. He’s not naked in Playboy. He sent in a joke, and they’re going to print it and pay him $100.

The joke isn’t that dirty — but I can’t reprint it here. McNulty is thrilled. He sent in a few stories to Playboy, but they were rejected out of hand with a note saying the mag doesn’t look at “unsolicited” manuscripts.

“At least I can say I was published in Playboy,” says McNulty. “And it’s kind of nice to receive a check from a company that took my lawn-mowing money when I was a teen.”

Breakfast

Garth Brooks was a hit at Saturday night’s Denver Health gala. Norm Clarke, the former Rocky Mountain News gossip who now rules the roost in Las Vegas, caught Brooks’ performance here after seeing his show twice in Vegas. “It was an eye-opener to see how much the show has evolved,” he told me. “It’s just remarkable how far he’s come with it. It’s tighter and funnier.”

Brooks’ wife, Trisha Yearwood, joined him for the gig and, at the request of organizer Sharon Magness Blake, brought with her several copies of her new cookbook, “Home Cooking with Trisha Yearwood,” as gifts to big donors to the Child Life Zone at Denver Health Medical Center. The book just hit No. 2 on the New York Times best-seller list — which took note of Garth’s Breakfast Bowl. He likes to cook it himself. Here it is, fans:

2 tablespoons butter

8 large eggs

1 16-ounce bag of Tater Tots, thawed.

1 pound pork sausage

1 pound bacon

1 9-ounce package cheese and roasted garlic tortellini

10 ounces of sharp cheddar cheese, grated.

Urp.

For life

Dining Out for Life — Thursday’s funder for Project Angel Heart — receives 25 percent of food sales all day at 312 Denver/Boulder restaurants. Project Angel Heart delivers meals at no cost to people coping with life-threatening illnesses. It’s one of the area’s great charities, and it will raise more than $300,000 Thursday.

Tambien and Sketch like to heat it up by competing with each other for tips. At Tambien this year, you’ll find me and other celebrity staffers: Nancy Levine, Chris Parente, Chris Meza and Ty Tomlinson. At Sketch, look for Matthew Morris, Tom Nalen, James Mejia and Greg Montoya.

For a list of all participating restaurants, go to .

At Tambien, Levine has promised to personally donate $1 to the cause for each shot of yet-to-be chosen tequila sold.
