WESTMINSTER — Brienne Garside gave ninth-ranked Legacy a moment of hope Tuesday at Five Star North Stadium.
The Lightning’s senior forward had the best opportunity to break a 3-3 stalemate with rival Mountain Range when the Mustangs goal opened in the final minute of the first overtime. Garside pulled the trigger on the shot, but Mountain Range defender Zoe Bergstrom came up with her team’s most heroic play of the game. Diving, the senior stopped what was sure to be Legacy’s game-winner. In turn, Bergstrom forced the Lightning into a corner for the Front Range League title.
“Had we won out, we would have controlled our own destiny,” Legacy coach David Castro said. “Now we need help.”
