The remake of “A Nightmare on Elm Street” brings back Freddy Krueger, the disfigured, brown-fedora-and- striped-shirt-wearing villain who kills his prey in their dreams, only to have the terror relived when they awake. R. 1 hour 42 minutes.
Mother Nature bites back

The devil’s playground
Terry Gilliam directed the colorful and bizarrely imaginative “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,” a modern-day morality tale. The film, which was Heath Ledger’s last, is now out on DVD. PG-13. 2 hours, 3 minutes.
An affair to remember
