Getting your player ready...

Newly hired Colorado men’s basketball coach Tad Boyle on Monday signed his first recruit, landing forward Andre Roberson of San Antonio.

The 6-foot-7, 190-pound Roberson narrowed his choices to Colorado and Penn State before signing with the Buffaloes. He joins a team in need of big men to accompany a strong backcourt that includes Alec Burks, last season’s Big 12 freshman of the year.

Boyle placed an emphasis on bringing in size when he took over in April for Jeff Bzdelik, who left for Wake Forest after three seasons with Colorado.

Boyle said Roberson has the athleticism to be a “game-changer” on both ends of the court. Roberson averaged 15 points and 12 rebounds as a high school senior. He was an all-state selection for Class 5A Wagner High School.

The Mavericks have a two-round total of 667 heading into today’s final round. Augustana College of South Dakota leads the regional at 643.

• Fort Lewis’ David Schroeder shot a 70, tying him for third place in the first round of the men’s Division II Central-West Regional in Palm Desert, Calif. He is one stroke behind the tournament leaders, Trevor Blair of Cal State Stanislaus and Gordon Webb of Western New Mexico.

ECAC salutes DU duo.

Two University of Denver men’s lacrosse players were named Eastern College Athletic Conference players of the week after helping the Pioneers upset Loyola (Md.) to win the ECAC championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament.

Patrick Rogers was named the offensive player of the week after contributing three goals and two assists to DU’s 12-4 win Sunday at Invesco Field at Mile High.
