Pine Creek’s Carolyn Simon tied a school record with her 20th goal of the season Monday night. It also happened to be the Class 5A Metro League-winning goal, as the Eagles defeated Air Academy 1-0 at District 20 Stadium.

Simon one-touched the ball past goalie Sarah Tanous in the 66th minute to hand the fifth-ranked Eagles (12-2, 7-0 5A Metro) the league title.

“It definitely feels good to break away, because they have a great defense,” said Simon, who will play at the University of Tampa next season. “The one really good opportunity we had and we finished.”

Air Academy is ranked fourth in The Denver Post/9News 5A poll.
