Convicted serial burglar Tarius Simes was sentenced to a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison today for break-ins that terrorized the University of Denver area for almost a year.
Simes, 33, pleaded guilty in March to a dozen burglary and aggravated robbery cases between October 2008 and September 2009.
He prowled through homes while his victims slept. Two days before his arrest after an early morning chase by police in the neighborhood, a young woman awoke to find him in her bedroom. He ordered her to put her head under her pillow and threatened to kill her if she moved as he pilfered through her belongings.
Simes typically stole small electronics, including laptop computers, and sometimes jewelry and money. None of his victims, many of them female college students, were physically harmed.
Simes’ has a history of arrests on burglary charges in Arapahoe County. He has been in custody on $500,000 bail since his arrest Sept. 19.
