Finishing second normally stinks, but when it comes to the All-NBA teams, it’s pretty prestigious, and Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony indeed made the second team All-NBA, announced by the league today.
The first team forwards were Cleveland’s LeBron James and Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant — who finished first and second in the MVP voting — while the guards were Kobe Bryant of the Lakers and Dwyane Wade of the Heat. Orlando’s Dwight Howard, who won the league’s award for the top defensive player, was the center on the first team.
Anthony, who finished with nine first-team votes from the 122 media voters, is joined on the second team by forward Dirk Nowitzki of Dallas, center Amare Stoudemire of Phoenix and guards Steve Nash from the Suns and Deron Williams of Utah.
Anthony averaged 28.2 points per game in the regular season, good for fourth in the league, and he averaged 30.7 points in the first-round loss to Utah in the postseason.
The third team featured Milwaukee center Andrew Bogut, Pau Gasol (Lakers) and Tim Duncan (Spurs) at forward, and Brandon Roy (Trail Blazers) and Joe Johnson (Hawks) were named the guards.
