Custer County’s quest for a third consecutive Class 2A baseball title starts at Alamosa High School.
The District 5 champion Bobcats (11-10) open the postseason in Region 3 against Paonia (9-7), the No. 2 team from District 2, at 10 a.m. Saturday. (.)
The four-region, 16-team field also includes Limon (16-4), which won five of six to close the regular season. The Badgers, champions of District 8, drew District 3 No. 2 Calhan (7-8) at 12:30 p.m. Friday in Region 2 at Englewood High School.
District 4 champ Resurrection Christian (19-2) could also make some noise out of Region 4. The Cougars have one of the more intriguing first round matchups: District 7 No. 2 Wiggins (14-2) at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Northeastern Junior College.
Las Animas (17-4), District 6 champions, is the favorite in Region 1. The Trojans play District 1 No. 2 Sargent (6-9) at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Runyon Complex.
Regionals get underway Friday and run through Saturday. The tournament will whittle down to four teams for the state tournament May 21-22.
The 2A championship is 1:30 p.m. on May 22.
