The USA bid committee trying to land soccer’s World Cup in either 2018 or 2022 will present its bid to FIFA on Friday, and the committee and Denver organizers are asking supporters to send a “Tweet bomb” to FIFA in support of the effort.

The Tweets need to be sent by noon MDT Friday, in conjunction with the submittal of the U.S. bid. FIFA will make its decision in December. Also submitting bids for the 2018 World Cup are Australia, England, Russia, Netherlands/Belgium and Portugal/Spain. The same countries are vying for the 2022 event, along with Japan, Qatar and South Korea.

If the U.S wins the bid, it will pare a list of 18 host cities to 12 five years out. Invesco Field would be the stadium if Denver is included.

CU tennis players honored.

The Big 12 Conference named Colorado tennis players Monica Milewski and Melisa Esposito to the all-conference team Wednesday, with Milewski receiving the honors as a singles player and the pair named as a doubles team.

Milewski had an 8-1 record as the Buffs’ No. 1 singles player, with three wins over ranked opponents. Esposito also was all-Big 12 as a doubles player in 2009.
