SAN DIEGO — Major-league batting leader Andre Ethier of the Los Angeles Dodgers has a fractured bone at the end of his right pinkie and isn’t sure how long he will be sidelined.

Ethier sustained the injury during batting practice Saturday and sat out the Dodgers’ 4-1 win against the San Diego Padres. He’ll be examined by a hand specialist in Los Angeles today.

“It’s a big thing,” Ethier said. “It could be a couple of days, it could be longer than that. I’m a little disappointed in the fact that it’s something this small.”

Ethier leads the majors with a .392 batting average and 38 RBIs, and is tied for the NL lead with 11 homers.

• The Phillies placed closer Brad Lidge on the 15-day disabled list with a sore right elbow.

Union ties FC Dallas

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia rookie Danny Mwanga scored an unassisted goal just as stoppage time was about to expire in the 94th minute and the Union salvaged a 1-1 tie against FC Dallas.

• The San Jose Earthquakes played the New England Revolution to a 0-0 tie in Foxboro, Mass.

Fredy Montero scored in the 86th minute to lift the Seattle Sounders to a 1-0 win over the New York Red Bulls in Harrison, N.J.

Guillermo Barros Schelotto‘s penalty-kick goal in the 90th minute helped the Columbus Crew beat visiting Chivas USA 1-0.

• The visiting Chicago Fire tied the Kansas City Wizards 2-2.

Stefan Frei made four saves in the final 17 minutes to help Toronto FC tie the Los Angeles Galaxy 0-0 in Carson, Calif.

Khan stops Malignaggi in 11th

NEW YORK — Junior welterweight champion Amir Khan made a sensational American debut, stopping former titleholder Paulie Malignaggi in the 11th round of a brutally efficient, one-sided fight.

Khan (23-1, 17 KOs) had Malignaggi on the ropes and threw a series of unanswered blows before referee Steve Smoger stopped the bout.

Wetterich in contention

SAN ANTONIO — Brett Wetterich shot a 4-under-par 68, and Jimmy Walker and James Nitties shot 67s to join Matt Jones atop the leaderboard at 7-under in the rain-delayed Texas Open.

Suzann Pettersen, Brittany Lincicome and Se Ri Pak head into today’s final round of the Bell Micro LPGA Classic tied atop the leaderboard at 13-under in Mobile, Ala.

Dan Forsman shot a record 10-under 62 and trails leader Bobby Clampett by one shot in the Regions Charity Classic Champions Tour event in Hoover, Ala.

Cadel Evans won the seventh stage of the Giro d’Italia in Montalcino, Italy, moving into second place overall behind Alexandre Vinokourov. David Millar of Boulder-based Team Garmin Transitions finished 11th in the stage and moved to third overall.
