The Boston Cannons scored four consecutive goals in the second period to turn a 6-5 deficit into a 9-6 lead Saturday night, and they went on to defeat the visiting Denver Outlaws 16-13 in the teams’ Major League Lacrosse season opener.
Max Seibald scored four goals for the Outlaws, including a two-point goal. Brendan Mundorf contributed a hat trick, and goalie Jesse Schwartzman stopped 15-of-30 shots. Matt Poskay had four goals for Boston.

Lauren Hainlen and Kellie Nishikida hit home runs, and pitcher Christie Robinson (25-2) struck out six to help propel the Metro State softball team (48-4) to a 7-1 victory over Minnesota State (35-14) in the second round of the NCAA Central Regional in Colorado Springs.
Hainlen and Nishikida hit their homers in a four-run sixth inning for the top-seeded Roadrunners, who are 2-0 in the Division II double-elimination tournament.
