When Jessica Simpson arrived at the Operation Smile gala in a curve-hugging gown from Carolina Herrera, onlookers immediately noted her newly svelte shape.
The star’s fluctuating weight has been heavily scrutinized over the years, but thanks to her new trainer, Danny Musico, Jessica is finally back in control. “She’s getting leaner and told me she went down three dress sizes,” Musico — who also trains Leonardo DiCaprio, Justin Bieber and even Jessica’s dad, Joe Simpson — tells In Touch. “She’s pushing herself to new levels,” explains the former professional boxer. Jessica burns calories through High Definition Training, which combines boxing, cardio and weights. “She’ll run for three minutes as fast as she can, then rest for 30 seconds, then box for three minutes and so on,” says Musico. “It’s a 60-minute, interval-based workout.” Jessica tells In Touch her favorite part is punching. “It gets a lot of aggression out,” she says.
Though they try to meet about four times a week, Musico reveals Jessica’s biggest challenge is her busy schedule. “With her clothing line and getting ready for another season of The Price of Beauty, it’s hard to find the time,” Musico — spokesperson for The Solution supplements — explains. “But when she’s at the gym, she always gives 100 percent.”
Three Haitian girls who lost limbs in January’s 7.0 magnitude earthquake were able to relax and shop with $1,000 shopping sprees at Kmart.
The New York Kmart store partnered with Wyclef Jean and his charity, Yele Haiti, to give the girls much-needed clothing and shoes, as well as electronics and makeup.
“When you come from a country where you make $1 a day, giving them $1,000 is like giving them $10,000,” Jean told the New York Daily News.
The girls who arrived in New York this week will also be fitted for prosthetic limbs on June 3.
The youngest of the three girls, Farah Maurice, 8, lost a leg above the knee in the earthquake.
But she didn’t seem to think about her disability as she zoomed around the girl’s department with her crutch, picking out clothes to fill her personal shopping cart.
“They need to know there are people like them and they’re normal,” Jean said. “Today they’re not thinking, ‘I don’t have a leg.’ They’re just being kids and they’re happy.”
The other two girls, Magarette Pierre, 17, and Chantal Mori, 17, each lost an arm.
“I want to buy clothes and shoes,” Mori said in Creole. “I’m very happy.”
The girls will later be treated at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Philadelphia for free.
Rocker and reality television star Bret Michaels says he’s increasing his rehabilitation to twice a day after suffering a brain hemorrhage last month.
Michaels said on Wednesday’s episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” that he’s still having trouble moving his lower extremities and has neck stiffness but that “each day gets better.” The 47-year-old Michaels was recently released from a Phoenix hospital. He was admitted to a hospital April 22 complaining of a severe headache.
The Poison frontman and “Celebrity Apprentice” finalist says he still has headaches but that they’re to be expected.
Michaels told Winfrey that after the hemorrhage he asked God “to let me live through this.”
Their daughter Shiloh will turn 4 on May 27, and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are already making plans for the big day: a soldier-themed party.
“Maddox had a soldier-themed party when he turned 4, so Shiloh wants the same,” a longtime family friend told InTouch, adding that the little girl can expect new boots, toy guns and a new bed that looks like a spaceship.
“She wants boys’ toys, since she’s such a little tomboy. Brad also bought Shiloh a jeep that is safe for kids, and he’s thinking of getting her a toy ATV that she can drive around the property.” — The Associated Press
