Northern Colorado golfer Stephen Bidne has been named co-player of the year in the America Sky Conference. Bidne shares the honor with Binghamton’s Jake Katz and Sacramento State’s Grant Rappleye.
Bidne had a breakthrough junior campaign in 2009-10 as he earned two conference player of the week awards. The Minnesota native finished third in the conference in scoring average (73.75) and won an individual tournament championship in the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in the fall. He also came in eighth at the America Sky Championship.
Bidne is Northern Colorado’s first Division I conference player of the year — in any sport.
Bears down Chicago State.
The Northern Colorado baseball team won 10-1 in the Great West Conference series opener over Chicago State in Greeley.
For the fifth straight outing, Bears junior pitcher Joe Sawicki allowed one or fewer earned runs in a start.
The win secured the second seed in the league tournament for the Bears, who will play next week at Texas-Pan American.
