Jennessa Tesone’s two-run, walk-off home run gave the Metro State softball team a 2-1 victory Friday over Wayne State, as the Roadrunners continued their roll through the NCAA Division II tournament.

Metro (50-4), ranked No. 4 nationally, took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three Super Regional series at Auraria Field in Denver. Nebraska’s Wayne State (43-13), will get another chance Saturday at noon in Game 2.

The winner of the series advances to the College World Series.

The Roadrunners’ Christie Robinson (27-2) allowed seven hits through seven innings, but allowed just one run, in the sixth inning.

Trailing by a run with three outs left, Tara Mickelson walked on 10 pitches to open the bottom of the seventh. Tesone followed on a 2-2 count with a homer to center field to win the game.

The Roadrunners finally got to Wayne State ace Katie Goetzinger, who entered the game with a sub-1.00 ERA and dropped her record to 32-9.
