A man accused of shooting two revelers at a New Year’s party in Arvada has been indicted by a federal grand jury.

Francisco Ornelas-Camacho, 20, was indicted this week on possession of a firearm by an illegal alien, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Ornelas-Camacho was living in Thornton at the time of the double shooting and is a citizen of Mexico, according to a news release.

He also faces two counts of attempted murder and two counts of assault resulting in serious bodily injury. Ornelas-Camacho is being held in the Jefferson County Jail.

“As a result of the shooting, the federal indictment alleges that the defendant knowingly possessed one or more firearms while being an alien who was illegally and unlawfully in the United States,” according to the release.

The shooting happened Jan. 1 at about 2 a.m. in the 6400 block of West 80th Drive, police said.
