ESTES PARK — Rocks have tumbled down onto U.S. 34, hitting a car and closing a 13-mile stretch between Estes Park and Drake.

State Trooper Heather Cobler said the car was damaged by the slide Friday afternoon, but no one was injured. She says there are about 10 large rocks on the highway and a large hole in the eastbound lane.

State and local agencies are working to stabilize the rocks on the hillside. The Colorado Department of Transportation says the highway will stay closed overnight and crews will determine what needs to be done Saturday.

Drivers can use Colorado 7 as an alternate route.
