Severe storms could rumble across northeastern Colorado this afternoon, including the Denver area, unleashing large hail and 70 mph winds.
However, a tornado watch that had been issued for Larimer, Weld, Logan and Morgan Counties was later cancelled by that National Weather Service..
The tornado watch runs through 10 p.m. tonight.
Isolated storms should intensify late this afternoon in the Denver metro area and then spread northeast into parts of Adams, Morgan, Logan and southern Weld counties, according to the weather service.
Some storms will produce large hail – up to golf ball-size – strong winds up to 70 mph and possibly a tornado, the Weather Service warns. The severe weather should settle down by midnight.
Warmer, drier conditions are expected in Denver and over the Eastern Plains on Saturday and Sunday.
Today’s high temperature in Denver should top out at about 79 degrees, the weather service said.
Skies over Denver should be sunny on Saturday as the high temperature climbs to about 85 degrees. Sunday will be mostly sunny in Denver with a high of 83.
