BOULDER, Colo.—Boulder-based Simple Solar Systems LLC has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, but the solar energy system installer says operations will continue.
Federal bankruptcy court filings indicate Simple Solar owes nearly $2.4 million to unsecured creditors and about $54,000 in sales taxes to Denver, Boulder, Louisville and Westminster.
It says it has 38 employees.
Neal Lurie is executive director of the Colorado Solar Energy Industries Association. He says Colorado laws including one that requires utilities to offer solar energy rebates have boosted the state’s solar industry, leading to more competition. He says there are four times as many solar companies now than in 2005.
