A man involved in an Eagle County Detention Facility work program called last night to report he had been shot in Wolcott, authorities say.
Michael Maher was taken to the Vail Valley Medical Center where he was treated for the bullet wound. His condition was not immediately available.
Eagle County Sheriff’s deputies were called at 7:59 p.m. to an Avon parking lot where they met Maher. The motive of the shooting is unclear.
Maher was on a work release program after he was arrested for drunken driving, which was a violation of a probation sentence in a sex assault conviction.
Authorities learned that the gunshot was self inflicted.
