The summer paddling season launches on the Arkansas River with the annual PaddleFest in Buena Vista hosted by Colorado Kayak Supply.
While the river has been slow to rise this spring, there’s plenty of water for educational courses covering everything from rolling a kayak to river safety and rigging for kayak fishing. Paddlers of all ages and abilities can mingle with gear manufacturers, team athletes and other industry pros offering freestyle clinics, guided tours on the river and various “how-to” courses. There’s even a free stand up paddle (SUP) clinic for aspiring freshwater surfers.
CKS will host a gear swap and storewide sale throughout the weekend, and contests and river demos will showcase the new whitewater play features built this winter at Buena Vista’s South Main Square. Live music, movies and games round out the entertainment menu from Friday evening through Monday.
