DENVER—The Colorado Avalanche have signed defense prospects Joel Chouinard (SHWEE-nahrd) and Jonas Holos (YOH-nuhs hoh-LAWS) to entry-level contracts.
The Avalanche chose both in the sixth round of the 2008 draft.
The 20-year-old Chouinard led all Quebec Major Junior Hockey League defensemen with 23 goals last season. He had 68 points in 65 games for the Victoriaville Tigres.
Holos of Sarpsborg, Norway, spent the last two seasons with Farjestads BK of the Swedish Elite League. He had one goal and 13 assists in 51 games this season. The 22-year-old represented Norway at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and at the 2010 IIHF World Men’s Hockey Championship in Germany.
