ESTES PARK, Colo.—The highway between Estes Park and Drake in northern Colorado will be closed so crews can blast loose unstable rock on the hillside where a rock slide occurred last week.
Rocks tumbled down onto U.S. 34 Friday, hitting a car and closing 13 miles of the highway. No one was injured.
The Colorado Department of Transportation says work to stabilize the hillsides will start at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Ty Ortiz of CDOT says there are still several large rocks that need to be removed.
State transportation officials say they hope to reopen the highway later Wednesday, but it depends on how much material is dislodged.
