DENVER—The Dodgers have reinforced their bullpen by recalling left-hander Scott Elbert from Triple-A Albuquerque.
The Dodgers designated infielder Nick Green for assignment on Friday before their game against Colorado to make room on the roster for Elbert.
Elbert was 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA at Albuquerque. He was 2-0 with a 5.03 ERA in 19 relief appearances for the Dodgers last season.
Green was batting .125 in five games since his May 4 recall from Albuquerque after signing with the Dodgers as a free agent over the winter.
Dodgers manager Joe Torre said he wanted an additional left-handed reliever, in particular for the series against the Rockies. With George Sherrill on the 15-day disabled list, the Dodgers’ only other left-handed reliever is Hong-Chih Kuo.
