The 11th annual Veterans Memorial Day Tribute will be at 11:30 a.m. at the Colorado Veterans Monument across Lincoln Street from the State Capitol, immediately following the annual Memorial Day Parade. The ceremony culminates with the Reading of the Names as the Navy Bell is tolled. Preceding the parade at 9 a.m. is a Rose Remembrance Ceremony. Bagpipers will parade from the Tower of Memories to the Pavilion of Reflection at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary, Cemetery and Arboretum, 7777 W. 29th Ave., Wheat Ridge. A tribute to veterans and families will be at 10 a.m. and features keynote speaker Artie Guerrero. A concert of patriotic favorites will be performed by the Denver Municipal Band Brass Quintet. The 2010 Denver Memorial Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. Parade marchers assemble near Civic Center Park at Bannock and Cherokee Streets between Colfax Avenue and 14th Avenue. The public can view the parade along 14th Street to Court Place, to 15th Street and Welton Street, east to 17th Street, then south on Broadway to 14th Avenue. The review stand is between Colfax Avenue and 14th Avenue on Broadway. The Parade is sponsored by the Denver United Veteran’s Council with support from the Denver County Veteran Services Office and the City and County of Denver.

RTD service on several bus routes will be detoured during the parade, which is expected to last approximately two hours. The following RTD routes will be detoured north- and south-bound: 0, 7, 8 and 12. These routes will be affected by delays throughout the parade. A Memorial Day tribute will be at 7 p.m. at Olinger Crown Hill’s Pavilion of Reflection, featuring an American flag sky diving demonstration, Queen City Jazz Band concert, fireworks and refreshments. The Aurora Veterans’ Affairs Commission is having a Memorial Day Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. at the Aurora Municipal Center, 15151 E. Alameda Ave. at the east flagpoles. There will be a flag raising, words from the Veterans’ Affairs Commissioners and other guests, and “Taps.” The ceremony will include a flyover from the United States Air Force.

Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary and Cemetery, 6601 S. Colorado Blvd., is hosting a Veteran Salute Ceremony, conducted by the George C. Evans American Legion Post 103 and its Auxiliary, at 11:30 a.m. Monday. There will be an F-16 fly over by the Colorado Air National Guard (if available); music; and a dove release. A Memorial Day Service will be presented by Vista Care Hospice of Denver and Olinger Crown Hill at 10 a.m. at the Pavilion of Reflection at 7777 W. 29th Ave., Wheat Ridge. Broomfield Veterans Museum is having a Memorial Day Ceremony and Picnic from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the main shelter at the Broomfield County Commons, 13200 Sheridan Blvd. There will be ice cream, an F-16 flyover, a Broomfield Civic Chorus performance, a performance by a local bagpipe and drum band, displays from the Broomfield Veterans Museum, local music, and food for sale from the Broomfield Lions Club. American Legion, 6230 W. 60th Ave., Arvada, is hosting the Glen Close Memorial Day Parade at 11 a.m. The event will kick off at 60th Avenue and Lamar Street.

The Commerce City Memorial Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. at 64th Avenue and Olive Street and will travel west on 64th Avenue to Holly, south on Holly to 62nd Avenue, west on 62nd Avenue to Parkway Drive west to Hwy. 2. The parade theme is: “Land of the Free Because of the Brave.”

The Town of Dillon is hosting its annual Memorial Day Service at 10 a.m. at the Dillon Cemetery, on Highway 6 between Swan Mountain Road and the Town of Dillon. Family, friends and neighbors gather to pay tribute to those who have served and gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. There will be speeches, music performed by the Summit Concert Band, and echo taps. The event is presented by Dillon’s Cemetery Advisory Committee in cooperation with Dillon’s Military Recognition Advisory Committee.

The Freedom Park Memorial Committee and VFW Post 10721 are hosting the 7th annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 3:30 p.m. at the Freedom Park Memorial American Flag Pole Plaza in Edwards, three blocks off I-70 Exit 63 on Miller Ranch Road on the west side of the pond. The keynote speaker is Jack McLean, author of “The Loon,” and the ceremony includes local musicians, the Battle Mountain High School Quartet “Shana Mockery,” local dignitaries and members of Boy Scout Troop 222. After the ceremony, Jack McLean will give a talk at The Bookworm in Riverwalk.

Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 S. Hancock, is having free Memorial Day Commemoration events from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The memorial balloon release will be between noon and 12:30 p.m. The event includes the 10th US Calvary Buffalo Soldiers, honoring a member of the 10th US Calvary who served in the Spanish American War. Milicent Peterson Young, a Women’s Air Force Pilot will be the guest of honor. Reenactors representing soldiers from the Civil War to the present will be sharing a collection of historic artifacts and answering questions. The Foothills Detachment 469 Department of Colorado Marine Corps League will have a ceremony at 2:00 p.m. at the Marine Corps Memorial at west 6th Avenue and west Colfax Avenue in Golden.

Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 Sheridan Blvd., is having a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Elected officials, representatives from the military services, veterans and their families will participate in the event. The activities are coordinated by the Associated Veterans of Colorado and include: a traditional wreath laying; comments by Senator Michael Bennet; a Memorial Day address by Lynette Roff, director, Eastern Colorado Health Care System; and a flyover by 140th Wing Colorado Air National Guard.

The Nisei Veteran’s Heritage Foundation and the Mile-Hi Japanese American Citizens League are hosting a Memorial Day Service, commemorating the 442nd Infantry, formerly the 442nd Regimental Combat Team of the US Army, at 11 a.m. at the Nisei Monument in Block 35 at Fairmont Cemetery, 430 S. Quebec St.

A Memorial Day Veterans’ Remembrance Service will be at 10 a.m. at Parker Cemetery. The event is being hosted by the Knights of Columbus who will have an Honor Guard in full Regalia. The event includes: an Air National Guard F-16 Flyover; presentation of colors by Douglas County Young Marines; raising of the flag by the American Legion; blessing by Sir Knight Deacon Tim Walsh; National Anthem performed by June Record-Curlee, Ponderosa School Graduate ’97 and Star of Miss Saigon ’04; Pledge of Allegiance; a welcome message by Parker Mayor David Causiano; an inspirational message by Col. John Smith, US Army; a USMC 21-gun salute with bugler playing Taps; and Boy Scouts placing American flags on Veterans’ graves.

The veterans of the famous 10th Mountain Division of World War II will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at the 10th Mountain Division Memorial Monument at Tennessee Pass.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4666 and the American Legion George C. Evans Post 103 are hosting a Memorial Day ceremony at 8 a.m. at Veterans Circle in the Littleton Cemetery, 6155 S. Prince St. There will also be a ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Littleton’s World War II Memorial in Ketring Park, 6000 S.
