CHICAGO — President Barack Obama said the continued flow of oil into the Gulf of Mexico is “as enraging as it is heartbreaking.”
Obama commented Saturday after BP officials said the latest attempt to cut the flow of oil had failed. He said that although officials had hoped the “top kill” procedure would succeed, they were mindful that there was a significant chance it would not.
Word that the procedure had failed came a day after Obama visited the Louisiana coast and assured residents that stopping the leak was his highest priority.
