
The latest tribute to Colorado service members is the Veterans Memorial Garden in Boulder’s Mountain View cemetery. Here are more throughout the state:
Memorial Park, Union Boulevard at Pikes Peak Avenue, Colorado Springs
Korea: Black polished granite lists the number of dead, missing, wounded and prisoners of war.
State Capitol, Denver
Civil War: Bronze figure of a Union soldier, designed by Capt. John D. Howland, a member of the 1st Colorado Cavalry. The stone base lists the battles and names of the soldiers who died, and acknowledges the U.S. military’s culpability in the Sand Creek Massacre.
World War II: Private Joe Martinez, the first Latino to receive the Medal of Honor after leading two assaults against the Japanese at Fish Hook Bay, Attu.
Colorado Veterans Memorial, 200 E. Colfax Ave., Denver
World Wars I and II, Korea and Vietnam wars: Built by a volunteer staff founded by Vietnam veteran Tim Drago upon finding that the State Capitol lacked memorials to those four wars.
Vietnam War Memorial, Jim Hamm Nature Area, 1701 E. County Line Road, Longmont
The plaque recognizes six St. Vrain valley men, including U.S. Air Force pilot Jim Hamm killed in the Vietnam War.
Western Slope Vietnam War Memorial, Colorado Welcome Center, 340 Highway 340, Fruita
A collaborative effort of 70 companies and hundreds of individuals, this memorial is dominated by a Huey helicopter permanently hovering overhead. The memorial was inspired by Jim Doody, whose brother, a Thomas, was killed in action while flying a Huey over Laos in 1971.

UMC Veterans Lounge, University Memorial Center, University of Colorado Boulder campus
World War II: The UMC is custodian for a 48-star American flag that flew on the USS Colorado and other artifacts from the battleship, including a wheel and bell, and a cast-iron scale model.
Sgt. Blake A. Harris Skate Park, City Park, 2631 E. Fourth St., Pueblo,
Earlier this month, a citizen-driven campaign persuaded the Pueblo city council to change the Pueblo S8Park to “Sgt. Blake A. Harris Park” to commemorate Harris, killed at age 22 in Iraq on March 5, 2007. Harris was on the committee that initially lobbied for the park’s creation.

World War II memorial, Korean War memorial, and Vietnam War memorial each recognize Las Animas County men and women who served in those wars.
