If the economy hasn’t bounced back quickly enough to join buddies in Pebble Beach, Myrtle Beach or Pinehurst this year, make it a point this summer to explore some Colorado courses away from the Front Range that might have been off your radar.
Golf Digest magazine has given Colorado’s public courses the highest average rating of any state, so the options for good golf will seem almost endless.
To the west, one-day trips could include the Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks in Silverthorne; Breckenridge Golf Club; the Keystone Ranch and River courses; or Copper Creek Golf Club at Copper Mountain. Overnight treks could include Eagle Ranch Golf Course in Eagle; Lakota Canyon in New Castle; Eagle Vail and Vail Golf Club; Redlands Mesa in Grand Junction; and Devil’s Thumb in Delta.
To the northwest, golf destinations include Pole Creek in Winter Park; Headwaters and Grand Elk in Granby; Grand Lake Golf Course; and Haymaker in Steamboat Springs.
To the southwest, possibilities include Pagosa Springs Golf Club; Hillcrest and Dalton Ranch in Durango; Fairway Pines Golf and Country Club in Ridgway; and the Links at Cobble Creek in Montrose.
Hit ’em straight!
