A body found in a house in the 700 block of Lafayette’s East Dounce Street was identified Saturday as Kelly Lee Willard, 24, of Westminster, according to a Boulder County coroner’s report.

Willard died of a gunshot wound to the head, the report said.

Police discovered the body Friday morning and then traveled to Nebraska to interview a man who was detained as a “person of interest” in the case, said Sgt. Gene McCausey of the Lafayette Police Department. The Boulder coroner has not yet ruled the death a homicide.

Neighbors told the Daily Camera that two men lived in the rental house, one in his mid-40s, the other in his early 20s. The men had moved in relatively recently, perhaps in the last six months. Neighbors heard the truck owned by the older man leave late Thursday night, and it did not return.

Art Ortega, who owns the property and lives next door, said there often were younger people staying at the house but never people the same age as the older tenant.

Ortega said he did not recognize the name of the dead man.
