Espen Kofstad of the University of Denver shot a 4-over-par 76 and was tied with 16 golfers for 103rd out of 156 players after the opening round of the NCAA championships at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn.
The senior struggled on the front nine. His 3-over 39 came with a double bogey on No. 9. Bogeys on the fifth and eighth holes negated his birdie on No. 2. He shot 1-over 37 on the back.
Former Legacy High School standout Steve Ziegler of Stanford is tied for 36th after an even-par 72. Gunner Wiebe of San Diego, who played for Kent Denver, shot 75, tied for 90th.
Jesper Kennegard of Arizona State and Henrik Norlander of Augusta State are tied for the lead at 4-under 68. Oklahoma State and Florida State are tied atop the team standings at 283.
