A man was gunned down Tuesday in his doorway at Littleton’s Parkland Square Apartments, and police are piecing together what appears to be a calculated hit.

A gunman walked past witnesses to an apartment at about 1 a.m., banged on the door until the man answered and shot him multiple times at close range, police said.

He then walked past the same witnesses in an apartment courtyard to an idling car in the parking lot, where a driver waited.

“This appears to be a very cold-blooded, very calculated act,” said police Lt. Sean Dugan. “We want to find out who these guys are and get them off the street as soon as possible.”

The victim’s name has not been released, nor has any motive been publicly identified, but Dugan said: “We haven’t ruled out anything, including that he went to the wrong door, but we don’t think that’s the case. He walked straight to the apartment, which was not in an easy part of the complex to find.

“The two men apparently exchanged words before the shooting.”

The shooter was described as a Latino man possibly in his early 20s, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, and wearing a hooded sweat shirt.

He continued shooting, even after the man tried to close the door, police stated.

The assailant left with another person in a dark Pontiac Grand Am or a Honda Prelude, witnesses told police.

A half-dozen police officers were in the parking lot of the complex between Santa Fe Drive and Federal Boulevard at dusk, more than 15 hours after the shooting.

Anyone with information about the crime should call 303-795- 3890.
