The Colorado State football team on Wednesday got a commitment from defensive tackle Bryan Bosworth of Island Coast High School in Cape Coral, Fla., according to multiple online recruiting sites.
Bosworth, at 6-feet-1, 270 pounds, was a Miami Herald all-state honorable mention selection in Class 2B last season. Bosworth played on both the offensive and defensive lines as a junior for Island Coast, a third-year varsity program.
Ferrero leads Women’s Open.
Only one player broke par in the opening round of the HealthOne Colorado Women’s Open at the 6,325-yard, par-72 course at Green Valley Ranch. Lisa Ferrero, of Lodi, Calif., shot a 2-under-par 70 to take an early lead in the tournament.
Five players were two shots back at even-par: Albuquerque’s Katie Kempter, a former member of the University of Denver golf team; Loveland’s Bethany Buchner; Moira Dunn of Utica, N.Y.; Tamara Beckett, of Queensland, Australia; Renee Skidmore of Everett, Wash; and Salimah Mussani of Ontario, Canada.
Not included at the top of Wednesday’s leaderboard was Jill McGill. The former Denver resident and member of the LPGA Tour shot an opening-round 77.
Wiebe makes big move.
Former Kent Denver High School golfer Gunner Wiebe shot a 4-under 68 in the second round of the NCAA championships to move up 69 spots into a tie for 21st place. Steve Ziegler, a former Legacy High School standout now playing for Stanford, is tied with Wiebe at 1-under 143. They are eight shots behind Wiebe’s teammate at the University of San Diego, Alex Ching. Play was suspended because of darkness with about 30 players still on The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn.
Espen Kofstad of the University of Denver is in a tie for 134th after a second-round 78 left him at 10-over 154.
