CHICAGO — A $300 million project to honor the late Michael Jackson and his family in their hometown of Gary, Ind., will include a performing-arts center, the Jackson Family Museum, a hotel, retail stores, restaurants, housing and a golf course, officials announced Wednesday.
At a news conference at the Genesis Center in downtown Gary, family patriarch Joe Jackson said about a half-dozen other cities had courted the family, but the complex belonged in Gary, where he worked in the steel mills and raised his nine children. “It’s something that my family and Michael always wanted,” Jackson said.
