The Colorado State Patrol today lauded the efforts of two men who jumped into a drainage canal to pull asuspected drunk driver from a submerged, overturned car in Fort Collins Wednesday.
Christopher Lyons, a member of the U.S. Army most recently stationed at Fort Gordon, Ga. , who was in town to enroll his son at Colorado State University, and Fort Collins business owner Martin Murphy saved the 41-year-old driver from drowning, authorities said.
“The Colorado State Patrol would like to thank both of the Good Samaritans for their quick actions and determination,” the agency stated.
The Poudre Valley Fire Authority added in a separate statement, “The swift actions of these two individuals most definitely saved this man’s life.”
The driver, Bradley Hill , of Fort Collins was charged with reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol .
He had driven onto the shoulder along the canal, then into Lake Canal Ditch at East Mulberry Street and Dawn Avenue just after 2 p.m. Wednesday.
He was treated for moderate injuries at a Poudre Valley Hospital.
