NO NAME, Colo.—Dangerous river conditions have prompted authorities to indefinitely suspend the search for a 21-year-old man who was swept way in Glenwood Canyon.
The Garfield County Sheriff’s office said Thursday rescue teams are hampered by temperatures that are below 50 degrees and fast-moving water in the Colorado River in the No Name area. Search and rescue teams had been looking for the man since Wednesday afternoon when he fell in while attempting to cross the river with two others in an old cable basket.
The two other people returned to shore in the basket, which operates via a pulley system just above the water’s surface.
Sheriff’s officials say the weighted-down basket touched down into the fast-moving river, tipping the basket and knocking the man out.
