Fort Collins police are investigating an attempted kidnapping that occurred early Thursday.
A 21-year-old woman riding her bicycle around 6:30 a.m. on South Shields Street at Hill Pond Road reported being stopped and approached by a man driving an older, white station wagon with rust spots, according to Fort Collins police.
Thinking the man needed help, the woman got off her bike and approached him. Then she saw he had a knife and turned to run, falling to the ground as she tried to escape. Two people driving by stopped to help the victim, who was not injured, according to the report. The suspect fled the scene.
The victim called 911 and gave police a possible Colorado license plate number.
The suspect hasn’t been found. He is described as in his mid-twenties, Hispanic and sporting short hair or a shaved head. He is about 5 feet 7 tall and weighs about 225 pounds. He spoke heavily accented English and was wearing blue jeans shorts and a blue shirt.
