Brannon Hays has landed the Mullen High School boys basketball job.

The former Metro State men’s coach who resigned in May, compiled a 98-27 with the Roadrunners, 61-15 in the Rocky Mountain Athetic Conference the past four seasons, including being named the RMAC’s East Division coach of the year in the 2008-09 season. Metro State was 24-7 in 2009-10.

Hays, who will teach physical education at Mullen, replaces Porter Cutrell, who headed the Mustangs for 14 years, won two Class 5A championships and compiled a 234-107 record.

Hays is the Mustangs’ second former coach from Metro State in a top boys’ sport — Mullen baseball also has Vince Porreco, who left Metro State after the 2006 season.
