A cab driver was shot Monday night during a robbery after taking a fare to northeast Denver, police said.
The driver, who was shot in the chest, was taken to Denver Health Medical Center where he was in “fair” condition, said John White, a Denver Police Department spokesman.
The Freedom Cab driver picked up a fare in downtown Denver at 16th and Champa streets and took the passenger to East 33rd Avenue and Williams Street, White said, where the driver called police at about 11:40 p.m. and reported he’d been shot.
The passenger fled on foot after robbing the driver of cash, White said. Police arrested a suspect, 20-year-old Emmanuell Theus-Roberts, a short time later and a short distance away.
Police declined comment on whether a weapon was found on the suspect.
Further details on the cabbie’s condition were not available.
