Getting your player ready...

It was a rare chance for seven fevered fans to get up close and personal with No. 7 during a Nude vodka promotion Monday at Elway’s Cherry Creek.

Colorado’s most famous face was front and center for winners of a contest sponsored by the vodka company, in which the Hall of Famer is an investor.

Contestants bought the product, then registered the bottle number on a website for a chance to party with John Elway.

“He’s my baby daddy — he just doesn’t know it,” said Kaiser pharmacist and longtime Colorado resident Teri Jordan, who bought five bottles to up her chances of winning an evening with her hero.

She still has vivid memories of the 1987 Super Bowl, when the Giants trounced her beloved Broncos.

“I stuck my head in the oven,” Jordan said. “It was an electric oven, and it wasn’t hooked up yet.”

Nude vodka founder and chief executive Shawn Harlan says that kind of fanatical fan brings exposure that any startup company yearns for.

“John Elway is a tremendous asset, and we are fortunate to have him — and all our other investors — believe in us,” Harlan said.

Board to bike.

Members of the board of directors of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce will paint the town red this morning by riding the ruby-red Denver B-Cycles to their regular monthly meeting to show support for the city’s bicycle-sharing program.

“It’s always said that you never forget how to ride a bike,” said Chuck Ward, 2009-10 chamber board chairman. “This will be a chance for our board members to demonstrate that lifelong skill . . . before showing their business skills at our board meeting.”

Chamber board members will meet outside the chamber building and walk one block to the Market Street Station, beginning at 7 a.m.

They will board their B-Cycles for a ride to the new Xcel Energy building at 1800 Larimer. Chamber president and chief executive Kelly Brough, a seasoned cyclist, may leave the others in her dust.

Baby steps.

KCNC-Channel 4 nighttime news anchor Karen Leigh received an early present Monday in the unexpected arrival of daughter Elle Antonia Peros.

The baby made the scene a month ahead of time while Leigh and her fiance, Jimmy Peros, were enjoying a getaway in Vail.

The couple rushed to Vail Valley Medical Center, and Elle arrived at 9:15 a.m. The baby weighs a smidge under 6 pounds and measures 18.5 inches long.

Leigh, who will be off the air for two to three months, will be replaced in the anchor seat by Kathy Walsh.

Talking the talk.

Radio talk-show host Craig Silverman will be sans sidekick Dan Caplis from Monday through Friday next week, so he’s asked local notables to sit in with him for the show on KHOW-630 AM.

Leading off the lineup is Denver Post owner William Dean Singleton on Monday, followed by lawyer David Lane on Tuesday, Arapahoe-Douglas counties assistant district attorney Leslie Hansen on Wednesday, historian Tom “Dr. Colorado” Noel on Thursday and comedian-vet Kevin Fitzgerald on Friday.

Caplis and his clan will be visiting Cooperstown.
