BOULDER — Five brides hoping to celebrate at least part of their nuptials at the Red Lion this weekend — even after the only access bridge to the restaurant collapsed Tuesday in the rushing Boulder Creek — got bad news Wednesday that they must find other venues.

Restaurant officials thought they might be allowed to shuttle wedding parties and their guests to the Boulder Canyon restaurant via Chapman Drive — a steep, unpaved back road to the business that is partially on Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks land. But after open space officials reviewed the road Wednesday, they determined the risk is too great.

The Boulder Country Club in Gunbarrel agreed to take two weddings — one Friday and one Sunday — and match the menus and pricing. Red Lion employees will be sitting on the roadside this weekend making sure wayward wedding guests can find the right venue.
