DENVER—Colorado Democrats are joining their national colleagues in promoting the rebate checks heading to some seniors on Medicare.

State Democratic Party chair Pat Waak met with the Colorado Alliance for Retired Americans Thursday to promote the program.

The $250 checks as part of the health care overhaul passed into law in March.

President Barack Obama was in Maryland promoting the rebate checks earlier this week.

The rebates are going to some 4 million seniors who fall into Medicare’s prescription drug coverage gap, known as the “doughnut hole.”

Congressional Democrats also sent out advisories promoting the rebate checks. About 80,000 checks are going out nationwide in the first batch.
