A man who fired a shotgun at Denver police outside a LoDo bar two years ago was sentenced to 33 years in prison on Monday, the Denver District Attorney’s Office said.
A jury in May found Andres Castillo, 28, guilty of two counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of second-degree assault.
Prosecutors said he took the weapon from his fatally wounded cousin, Mark Tabullo-Zuniga, 23, in a shootout at 18th and Market streets just before 2 a.m. on June 22, 2008.
Tabullo-Zuniga was arguing with another man in a parking lot when gunfire erupted between the two. When two police officers arrived, Tabullo-Zuniga shot at them, and the officers returned fire and killed him. The officers were not hit.
